Vortragstitel: "Intracranial aneurysms"
Abstract:
Intracranial aneurysms are life-threatening conditions that may affect people in their young years and productive life. The incidence of rupture is growing, and preventive treatment hasn’t impacted it at all. Efficient rupture risk assessment is required particularly for the evaluation of small-sized aneurysms. Current imaging and clinical methods fail to effectively predict rupture. Advanced geometrical analysis and computational fluid dynamics have a potential spot in the future of this domain. Validation and clinical implementation are yet to be performed. Geometrical segmentation is still laborious and time-consuming and CFD is hugely variable and results inconsistent and methods dependent. The only statement we know is that large aneurysms should be treated. New treatment modalities have improved complete occlusion rates like flow-diverting stents or intra-saccular devices. Guidance on the choice of best approach or device for each patient may increase the effectiveness of these techniques. Virtual stenting and use of dynamic imaging to evaluate treatment results have a great potential.
