Model-Based Image Reconstruction for MRI (Applications to Prospective Motion-corrected Data & Echo Planar Imaging
Abstract:
The inverse fast Fourier transform (iFFT) has served the MR community very well as the conventional image reconstruction method for k-space data with full Cartesian sampling. But when only under-sampled data is available, or when non-Fourier physical effects like field inhomogeneity are important, then iFFT method for image reconstruction is sub-optimal. Surprisingly, iterative algorithms based on appropriate models can improve image quality. Moreover, the forward model can be extended to include further physical effects, e.g. imaging gradient non-linearity, motion-induced phase maps, relaxation maps or diffusion models, etc. The solutions of this linear model are generally estimated by minimizing a regularized least-squares cost function.
