ZIM-Netzwerk INSTANT begeht Phase 2

Mit insgesamt 15 - zum Großteil dem Forschungscampus STIMULATE angehörigen - Partnern, darunter 13 Unternehmen und 2 Forschungseinrichtungen, startet das ZIM-Netzwerk INSTANT des „Zentralen Innovationsprogramms Mittelstand“ (kurz ZIM) in die zweite Netzwerkphase. Der Netzwerksname INSTANT steht für „Internationale Netzwerk zur Entwicklung patientenSchonender, bildgeführter DiagnosTik- und TherApiemethoden zur Behandlung von VolkskraNkheiTen“ und bündelt Kompetenzen im Bereich der Hard- und Softwareentwicklung für Medizinprodukte zur Behandlung von Volkskrankheiten, wie Herzinfarkt, Krebs und Schlaganfall.

Die 2. Phase von INSTANT wurde als nationales Netzwerk beantragt und bewilligt. Aktuell sind auch coronabedingt keine weiteren internationalen Forschungs- und Entwicklungs (FuE) -Projekte geplant. Neben den drei bisherigen FuE-Schwerpunkte:

1. Patientenindividuelle Simulations-/Bildanalyseverfahren für eine innovative Diagnostik und Therapie,
2. Innovative Hard-/Software zur Unterstützung computertomographischer Untersuchungen und Interventionen,
3. Patientenschonende Lösungen für schnelle und komfortable Interventionsszenarien unter Bildgebung,

gibt es in Phase 2 noch einen neuen vierten FuE-Schwerpunkt:

1. Digitale Trainingssysteme für medizinisches Personal unter Einsatz von Extended-Reality-Technologien.

In der 1. Phase wurden in INSTANT mit insgesamt 22 Partnern, darunter 16 Unternehmen, 5 Forschungseinrichtungen und ein assoziierter Partner, 10 FuE-Projekte bewilligt, wovon 2 bereits erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden konnten. Die Corona-Pandemie hat die internationale Zusammenarbeit in Phase 1 erschwert, bspw. waren geplante Reise zum Austausch im Ausland nicht möglich.

Dennoch kann das INSTANT-Netzwerk entwickelte und erprobte Projektergebnisse in Form von innovativen praxistauglichen Produkten, Verfahren und technischen Dienstleistungen vorweisen, die Potential für die Etablierung am Markt bieten. Die Projektergebnisse tragen zur Festigung der Medizintechnik als Schwerpunkt am Standort Magdeburg bei.

Unterstützt und koordiniert wird das INSTANT-Netzwerk wird durch die „Zentrum für Produkt-, Verfahrens- und Prozessinnovation GmbH“ (kurz ZPVP) mit Sitz in der Experimentellen Fabrik Magdeburg.

ZIM-Network INSTANT starts phase 2

With a total of 15 partners, most of them belonging to the research campus STIMULATE, including 13 companies and 2 research institutions, the ZIM network INSTANT of the "Central Innovation Program for SMEs" (ZIM for short) is starting its second network phase. The network name INSTANT stands for "International Network for the Development of Patient-friendly, Image-guided Diagnostic and TherApic Methods for the Treatment of Common Diseases" and bundles competencies in the field of hardware and software development for medical devices for the treatment of common diseases, such as heart attacks, cancer and strokes.

The 2nd phase of INSTANT was applied for and approved as a national network. Currently, no further international R&D projects are planned, also due to corona. In addition to the three previous research and development focus points (R&D focus):

1. patient-specific simulation/image analysis methods for innovative diagnostics and therapy,
2. innovative hardware/software to support computed tomographic examinations and interventions,
3. patient-friendly solutions for fast and comfortable intervention scenarios under imaging,

there is a new fourth R&D focus in phase 2:

1. digital training systems for medical staff using extended reality technologies.

In the 1st phase, 10 R&D projects were approved in INSTANT with a total of 22 partners, including 16 companies, 5 research institutions and one associated partner, of which 2 have already been successfully completed. The Corona pandemic made international collaboration in phase 1 more difficult, e.g. planned travel for exchange abroad was not possible.

Nevertheless, the INSTANT network can present developed and tested project results in the form of innovative practical products, processes and technical services, which offer potential for establishment on the market. The project results contribute to the consolidation of medical technology as a focus point at the Magdeburg location.

The INSTANT network is supported and coordinated by the "Zentrum für Produkt-, Verfahren- und Prozessinnovation GmbH" (ZPVP for short) based at the Experimental Factory Magdeburg.
